Tips on How to Choose the Best Toothpaste for Your Child

Posted .

Your child deserves a strong and healthy smile. One of the only ways to help your child achieve that goal is by giving them the proper and effective oral hygiene tools to clean their teeth and gums regularly. To help you select the best toothpaste for your child’s little chompers, our dentist, Dr. David Solomon, has some tips and recommendations for you.

First, choose a paste that has the American Dental Association’s Seal of Acceptance on the packaging. This logo proves that the paste is safe and effective for use. The ADA examined the paste with vigorous tests. If it passed, it received the logo on the packaging. This helps you avoid harmful or even useless oral hygiene products.

Second, avoid pastes that have harsh abrasives. Harsh abrasives can hurt your child’s little chompers. This is because it erodes and wears away the young enamel. So, make sure you avoid the harsh abrasives. Children’s toothpaste should be free of them.

Third, look for fluoride in the paste. Fluoride is a natural mineral that can strengthen the teeth and help prevent dental issues. This mineral can greatly help your child; however, that’s only the case if they are of age. It’s important to only give your child fluoridated toothpaste if they are older than 3 years old.
